Back-to-Backs and Rest
What the second night of a back-to-back does, and what doesn't matter.
We tested five seasons, about 16,000 team games, against each team's and its opponent's season rates.
On the second night of a back-to-back, teams scored about 5% fewer goals than usual and allowed about 4% more. That is the B2B tag on Tonight, Team Lines and the game logs.
Three games in four nights that isn't a back-to-back, and a fourth straight game away from home, came out within the noise. Time zones crossed showed nothing.
The projections already allow for a back-to-back, so the tag explains a number rather than adding to it.
